How to Make Mango Milkshake with Ice Cream - Mango Shake Recipe

mango milkshake recipe with ice cream
Recipe for mango milkshake with homemade mango ice cream, chilled milk, and some vanilla to enhance the flavour. A perfect and easy summer drink for your family and guests.
I started this blog what seems like a lifetime ago and over the years, it's been with me through so many events - being single, being engaged then married, celebrating 5 years of marriage and now 6, two international relocations and a potential third coming up soon, and so much more. During this time, I have felt an intense desire to stop blogging many times, due to many reasons. I've continued mainly because of the notes I get from many of you because they are always so nice and seem like I made a real difference to your lives in the kitchen. It touches me to think that a small corner of the Internet, this space right here, one among many (many MANY) food blogs out there has touched your lives. And so I pick myself up, go back to my stash of food pictures, dust out a set, edit them, and continue on.

mango milkshake recipe with ice cream

The truth is, I don't remember not being a food blogger. I don't remember how it feels to not have a cupboard full of single pieces of cutlery, or looking at every beaten down wood piece along the streets longingly, or buying ingredients with the hope of making 'something' soon, or looking at a viral recipe idea and wishing I'd come up with it first, or getting really annoyed and angry at all the 'inspired' versions of my creativity and writing all over, or not checking Facebook and G+ for your messages and comments - the list goes on. Being a food blogger is as much as a part of me as being a Googler, or being a Reddiar, a wife, an Indian. I don't know how not to be one anymore.

I started blogging for myself, as an outlet for whatever dregs of creativity I have in me, and now it continues to exist for each and every one of you who read me, follow me, and send me those notes and pictures of food you've cooked from Edible Garden (very sentimental, I know).

I'll sincerely try to continue to write as long as someone out there continues to read. Ok? Ok :)

Mango milkshake has nothing to do with my outpouring above, I just chose this day and this post randomly to say what's been on my mind for a long time.

I used my eggless mango ice cream (uses only 3 ingredients) to make this milkshake but you can very easily replace with vanilla ice cream and canned mango pulp / fresh mango pieces or store-bought mango ice cream to prepare this shake. A hint of vanilla is my mom's touch to homemade milkshakes and so I add the same too.

All mango drinks are fabulous but I especially love mango banana milkshake, mango milkshake with avocado and this mango lassi we had copious amounts of last spring.

MANGO MILKSHAKE WITH ICE CREAM

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Makes 2 tall glasses

INGREDIENTS:
2-3 large scoops of mango ice cream
1 cup of chilled milk
2 drops of vanilla essence
2 tbsp of powdered sugar (if needed)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Blend all ingredients until smooth. If you want a thicker shake, add more ice cream and add milk if you want to make it thinner.

Instead of adding sugar, I sometimes add a spoon or two of condensed milk to sweeten the milkshake.

If you want to use vanilla ice cream, then add 1/3 cup of mango puree (fresh or canned) to flavour it. The colour of your milkshake will depend on the mangoes you use. My mango ice cream was very faintly yellow due to the variety of mangoes I used.

Enjoy chilled immediately!

Strawberry Lassi Recipe - How to Make Strawberry Lassi

Lassi is one of those drinks I used to get during Indian meals, I habit I started off in Singapore. However, I very quickly got sick of the overly sweet and often artificially flavoured and coloured fake-lassi in Indian restaurants and started making lassi at home using sweetened Greek yogurt and fresh fruit. You can obviously use plain (not sour) yogurt and sweeten your lassi using honey or sugar but I find that using plain sweetened Greek yogurt like Jalna available in Australia (mentioned here) makes delicious lassi that's just the right amount of sweet. Check out my Mango Lassi Recipe too. Refer here if you'd like to make your own yogurt.

Strawberry in lassi is not a conventional choice but when you have such amazingly sweet strawberries bursting with juice in the markets, it's hard not to get excited and add it to everything, even your drinks. Also, this bowl of strawberry below is the first picture I clicked using my upgraded camera body, the Nikon D7100.
strawberry lassi-how to make strawberry lassi

Oh but wait! Before I go on yada yada about strawberry lassi, I must explain my long absence from here. I have been travelling a lot on work and also been in training workshops on and off which required my full attention and lots and lots of energy. I also snuck in a quick weekend trip to India and after all that travel and intense weeks, I just put any major cooking plans and blogging on the back burner. I did miss it a lot but wanted to make sure I am not just throwing some recipe out there without putting in some effort into it. I know strawberry lassi is hardly a great comeback, but hey, I need to ease myself into this all over again so bear with me, yeah?

Here we go, how to make strawberry lassi.

Blend 1 cup sweetened plain Greek yogurt with 1/2 cup washed and hulled strawberry and 1 cup milk until very smooth. Make sure all ingredients are chilled. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Serves 2.

If you are using plain yogurt, make sure it's not sour at all and use sugar or honey to sweeten your lassi. I personally don't like honey in lassi and use powdered sugar to make blending easier.

It also helps if your strawberries are ripe and sweet. If they are too sour, the milk/curd may curdle so consider yourself warned.

Dates Banana Milkshake Recipe (Vegan Option Included)

dates banana milkshake recipe

Dates Banana Milkshake, a combination that's probably common and should've seemed natural to me but I never went beyond this banana milkshake with coconut milk for a long time. One day, a friend and I were talking about the ill effects of sugar on our body and how some natural sugars are lesser of the two evils. She uses date sugar in almost all her beverages and that's when the lightbulb went off in my head that I can easily add a couple of dates to my milkshakes instead of sugar.

Easy milkshakes like these are a great drink idea to serve to guests before a party. Serve them in smaller portions so you don't fill them up before the food is served but in general, I appreciate a good hearty drink before some spicy food at Indian parties, especially. A lassi like strawberry lassi or mango lassi is a great option too but as mentioned, keep portions small.

dates banana milkshake recipe

I absolutely love banana milkshake and ayurveda didn't keep reminding me that the combination of banana and cow's milk doesn't suit all body types. I then started using coconut milk in my banana milkshake (and so making it vegan) and while it's not as nice as the original version, it's an acceptable substitute. You can use either cow's milk or go with coconut milk or any other nut milk for a vegan version of this dates banana milkshake.

Check out other easy drinks recipes on Edible Garden. The most popular ones are apple almond milkshake, avocado milkshake, and the popular milkshake from Kerala, Sharjah shake.

DATES BANANA MILKSHAKE RECIPE

Preparation time: 3 minutes
Makes 2 glasses

INGREDIENTS:
400 ml of chilled milk (use any kind you prefer)
3/4 cup of ripe banana, cubed
2 dates (I love Medjool dates for milkshakes)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Blend all the ingredients together, deseeding the dates if needed before you start blending.

2. Pour into tall glasses and serve immediately.

As mentioned, for a vegan date banana milkshake, you can use coconut milk, cashew milk, or any other vegan-friendly milk that suits your palate. I have only tried cow's milk and coconut milk in this milkshake recipe.

Avocado Milkshake Recipe - Milkshake with Indian Butter Fruit

How to make milkshake with avocado, easy avocado milkshake recipe - For the longest time, I didn't realise the butter fruit that turned into delicious milkshake during my childhood is actually avocado. In the cooler parts of Kerala, avocado grows abundantly though they tend to be larger than the avocados I've seen from the US. Amma used to make butter fruit milkshake very often and I've enjoyed many glasses of this delicious milkshake especially during the summer holidays - a filling and refreshing mid morning snack while we played in the hot sun.

avocado milkshake recipe

These avocados are from a tree that is growing wild in a family friend's place, Thumpayil Farms, in Vagamon and they gave us 4-5 fruits fully ripened on the tree and bursting with freshness. What a luxury it is to eat organic fruits that are fresh off a tree! We refrigerated the super ripe avocados overnight and amma made this amazing milkshake the next day.

avocado milkshake
Avocados or Butter Fruit from Kerala

She kept insisting that the fruits were too ripe but the milkshake tasted perfect and was a gorgeous pale green colour. One fruit yielded enough milkshake for four people and I had it at midday, just like I did all those years ago. Avocados are full of healthy fats that bring down your bad cholesterol levels and raise the good fats in your body. This regulates how your body stores fat and makes you a healthier and happier person. Although avocados are a larger focus in recent dates due to their good fats, it's good to enjoy them in moderation. My favourite ways to enjoy avocados is in this form of avocado milkshake, avocado egg sandwich, in guacamole, or hidden in a cake like these vegan chocolate cupcakes.

AVOCADO (BUTTER FRUIT) MILKSHAKE RECIPE

1-2 tsp of powdered sugar
2 glasses of cold milk (about 500 ml)
1 to 1.5 glasses of cold water

How to make Avocado Milkshake:

Blend all ingredients until smooth and of pouring consistency. Adjust sugar to your preference and if too thick, add more milk.
Pour milkshake into glasses and serve immediately.

Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe (Vegan Option Included)

Banana Mango Milkshake is a delicious and filling breakfast option if you are a lazy cook in the mornings or just want something quick and healthy. I have made a vegan version with coconut milk and a regular milkshake with cow's milk and love both. Take your pick!
This mango season has been very kind to us. Usually, the mangoes we buy in Singapore are average at best and I am nostalgic about the hot Kerala summers and mango memories at this time of the year. But this year, I got amazing mangoes at Mustafa and bought them by the kilo. They are definitely more expensive but oh-so-totally worth it if you are mango lover like it. Use them up in a simple mango lassi, a milkshake like below, a mango cake, or even a more pretty dessert like a layered eggless mango cheesecake.

Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe - Easy Fruit Milkshakes

I generally don't make fruit milkshakes or smoothies unless I have excess amounts of fruits I need to use up. But this mango banana milkshake was really a wonderful weekend breakfast for TH and I. I got the idea to use coconut milk in my milkshake to make it vegan, from Dassana of Veg Recipes of India. I experimented with a bit of coconut milk and didn't mind the taste so went with it on day one. On day two, I just used fresh cow's milk and it was delicious.

Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe - Easy Fruit Milkshakes

I have read and heard about how banana and cow's milk is not a great combination and that it often creates lethargy. I have had my fair share of banana milkshakes (in the form of Sharjah Shakes) and never faced an issue but let's not argue with ayurveda, ok? Try this milkshake with coconut milk and stick to it if you like the taste. Otherwise, just use regular milk, whatever works best for you.

BANANA MANGO MILKSHAKE RECIPE

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Serves 2

Ingredients:
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 ripe mango
  • 1 cup of light coconut milk or regular milk
  • 2-3 drops of vanilla essence (optional)
  • 1 cup of cold water, more or less

How to Make Banana Mango Milkshake:

1. Peel and chop both the fruits. I refrigerated them overnight to keep them chilly.
Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe - Easy Fruit Milkshakes

2. Throw all ingredients into whichever blender you own. I use my stick blender for fruit milkshakes and smoothies and it does a good enough job.
Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe - Easy Fruit Milkshakes

3. Blend away until smooth and of pouring consistency. If too thick, add more coconut milk/milk or water.
Banana Mango Milkshake Recipe - Easy Fruit Milkshakes

That's it. Pour into glasses and serve chilled. You can refrigerate this for about an hour but I highly recommend consuming fresh fruit milkshakes immediately. Add a splash of honey or some sugar if your fruits are not sweet enough.

Badam Kheer Recipe - Badam Milk Recipe - Indian Welcome Drink Ideas

Badam Kheer will always remind me of having guests over. Well, not really guests but people from your extended family who always arrived with laughter, love, and gifts. I am guessing some of the other stuff they brought along was not really visible to my 10-year old eyes but I loved it when my parents entertained, and they did a lot of it while I was growing up. Amma loved to cook for others and she always made a festival of it, planning and preparing a couple of days in advance and well into the actual day.

Badam Kheer - Badam Milk - A Welcome Drink Recipe Idea

Badam Kheer or Badam Milk was a standard welcome drink in her menu list when we had people over for lunch. The guests would start trickling in by 11am and it was my duty to pour glassfuls of chilled and fragrant badam kheer for those who have barely taken a seat in the hallway.

badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

The reason why badam milk works as a great welcome drink is because it can be made the previous day and chilled overnight in the refrigerator, giving the flavours a chance to mingle and talk. It's also non-fussy and you can focus on the starts and appetizers while your eager 10-year old takes care of serving it. My mom really knows how to plan a party!

BADAM KHEER OR BADAM MILK RECIPE

Preparation time: 2 hours
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Makes ~6 glasses

Ingredients:
  • 12 almonds
  • 1 litre of milk (use full cream milk for best results)
  • 1 pinch of saffron (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp of Everest milk masala or 1/4 tsp powdered cardamom powder
  • 1/2 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)

How to Make Badam Kheer:

1. Soak the almonds in warm water for 1-2 hours. Remove skin by rubbing between your fingertips.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

Also soak the saffron in 2 tbsp cold milk (if using).
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

2. Grind the almonds with 1/2 cup milk to a smooth paste.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

The paste should be fine and smooth when you rub between your fingertips.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

3. Cook this badam paste in a sauce pan on low heat until it starts to bubble. Let it simmer for 3-4 mins more. Then, add the remaining milk and let it come to boil. Continue to simmer.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

4. When the raw smell leaves the kheer (about 8-10 mins), add the sugar. The amount of sugar really depends on personal taste but amma always made badam kheer a bit on the sweeter side.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

5. Simmer for another 5 mins and then add the milk masala (or powdered cardamom) and soaked saffron. At this point, if you feel the badam milk is too thick, you can add more milk. Go with your preference.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

6. Stir through once and as it begins to boil again, remove from fire.
badam kheer-badam milk-welcome drink recipe

Badam Kheer can be served warm or chilled but we prefer it chilled and that's the way it's always served in our home.

The milk masala has some pistachio bits which gives the badam milk a nice colour (it also has saffron but the flavour is not as deep as I'd like). You can add some slivered almonds or pistachios for texture if you don't have milk masala in hand.

Blueberry Lemonade Recipe - Guest post for my Sister's Spicy Chilly

I have a sister. She has a food blog too and it's been in neglect for a while so I am hoping to revive it for a bit with this gorgeous blueberry lemonade I made over the weekend. I am usually at a loss on what to make with blueberries after adding using them in blueberry streusel muffins, eggless pancakes, and blueberry coulis. Well, drinks and juices, of course! I had initially planned a strawberry lemonade for her but couldn't find strawberries that were pretty enough. I didn't want to drop the idea of making a lemonade so instead picked up these gorgeous blueberries instead.

Blueberry Lemonade Recipe

I had a pretty busy weekend with quite a lot of cooking, slicing vegetables for the coming week, visiting family and new born babies, dinners with friends, a movie (Star Trek - it's good, go watch), trying out a new restaurant, you know, packing life into 2 days! So this drink was photographed in a hurry under an overcast sky. Nevertheless, Singapore is hot and humid this time of the year whether it's raining or shining so it's always a perfect time to enjoy some lemonade.

Blueberry Lemonade Recipe

Blueberry lemonade has a lovely texture and has a nice sweetness from the berries and tartness from the lemon. You can help it along by adding some honey or sugar, especially if the berries are not sweet enough. I did add some raw sugar to my lemonade. Some ice cubes would have been nice but I didn't have any ready so I just made do. Use chilled water if you don't have ice cubes, or better yet, make sure you have some in hand before you start making it!

Have I rambled enough? Over to my sister's lovely blog for the Blueberry Lemonade Recipe

Orange Lemon Juice Recipe - A Welcome Drink Recipe Idea

I barely make juices at home since whatever fruits we buy, we prefer to eat as is without squeezing it out and adding more sugar or sweeteners. Plus, I'd rather make paneer than make juice - it's all about priorities. However, I was raised on a healthy amount of hand-squeezed juices. Amma would juice pretty much anything that came her way and we always welcomed guests with a nice cold glass of juice, aptly called a welcome drink - here's Amma's favourite welcome drink recipe.

Orange Lemon Juice Recipe-Welcome Drink Recipe

I love all things citrusy and making a juice of orange with some drops of lemon and sugar just seemed like a welcome change to the usual tea we have in the evenings. This orange lemon juice was born out of necessity though.

The other day, we saw this huge orange being sold in a supermarket nearby. When I say huge, I mean huge - almost three times the size of a regular orange. See below for comparison in sizes of the orange against a pretty large-sized lemon. See what I mean? I am sure there's some other name to this fruit than "orange" so if you know, please share share your wisdom.

Update: thanks to the many who pointed out that this is actually a mandarin. I have seen the regular mandarins that come individually packed during Chinese New Year but this one was huge so I got confused. Thanks for clarifying, you all know who you are :)

Orange Lemon Juice Recipe-Welcome Drink Recipe

Chinese New Year time is when all sorts of oranges in different shapes and form enter the market. Although this is our 4th Chinese New Year in Singapore, neither of us had seen an orange this big. So we did what any curious person would do and bought one.

Orange Lemon Juice Recipe-Welcome Drink Recipe

It peeled like any other orange would do but with a bit more resistance. The skin was thick, the insides were more fibrous and the seeds were huge. We both bit into one piece with great anticipation but owwww, it was very very sour.

So I did the obvious thing and juiced it. That one orange + a few drops of lemon juice gave us three 200ml glasses of orange lemon juice.

Orange Lemon Juice Recipe-Welcome Drink Recipe

I altered the proportion of orange : lemon in each glass which explains the difference in colours. We polished off all three glasses of juice in a matter of minutes! Make these for guests or your dehydrated kids/selves when the sun is hot and there's that lull between breakfast and lunch. Your body will thank you for it.

Orange Lemon Juice Recipe-Welcome Drink Recipe

I don't like pulp in my orange juice so passed the juice through a relatively fine-meshed sieve. You can squeeze the juice directly using a hand-juicer and just remove the seeds if that's what you prefer. I used my blender for the job.

ORANGE LEMON JUICE RECIPE

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Makes 3 glasses

Ingredients:
  • 3-4 of regular-sized oranges or 1 large orange if you can find them
  • 1/2 of a lemon
  • 2-3 tbsp of sugar (adjust to taste)

How to Make Orange Lemon Juice:
  • Peel the oranges and add them to a blender. Alternately, you can use a hand-juicer and juice them with the pulp intact.
  • Blend the oranges and pass through a sieve or mesh to remove the hard fibres and pulp.
  • Squeeze the desired amount of lemon and add sugar.
  • Chill and add ice cubes before serving

Notes:
- Don't make this too much in advance - about 30 mins max before you need to serve is ideal
- Add ice cubes just before serving, otherwise the juice will become too dilute from the melting ice cubes
- Adjust the proportion of orange and lemon to your taste

Watermelon-Melon Milkshake | Easy Milkshake Recipes

Easy milkshake recipe with watermelon and melon - I am home now and amma is churning out (sometimes, quite literally!) different things to eat and drink every meal time. Yesterday around noon, we were feeling a bit peckish so she made this quick milkshake which was delicious and so much nicer than eating the fruits plain, although arguably it's healthier and better to eat fruits as is. What I love about watermelon milkshake is the gorgeous colour, especially because of adding melon which is a faint orange.

My sister was a most obliging model for this pic, few seconds before we all downed the milkshake. You can make this milkshake in under 10 mins - all you need is some melon, chilled milk and a mixer or blender. The fruits we used were chilled overnight too so everything came together really nicely.

When making milkshake, choose ripe fruits. These tasted fabulous just as they are too - sweet and juicy. Another important component is milk. It has to be chilled and preferably whole fat, not the skim or low fat kind, although you can use what you want and have in hand. Amma gets milk from a home that raises their own cows and extracts the cream out of it so all the milk we use at home is naturally lower in fat, yet creamy.

You can make this milkshake ahead of time and store in a closed jug in the refrigerator. Just make sure not to let it sit for more than a couple hours - milkshakes are always best served fresh. Enjoy with your family or serve to guests as a welcome drink before a party.

Mango Lassi | Mango Lassi Drink Recipe | Mango Yogurt Smoothie

Mango Lassi is one of my favourite drinks even if they come super sweetened in styrofoam cups from Saravana Bhavan. That's probably my least favourite place to buy it from but I love even that mango lassi. Traditionally in Punjab, where lassi is said to be from originally (and hence the  name Punjabi lassi), a lassi is more than just a drink that blends together a fruit like mango and thick curds. I have seen versions with added cream, spices like cardamom, and more complicated process than just whizzing them all up in a blender.

However, if you preferred an uncomplicated kitchen life like I do, they are super easy to whip up and a great way to use up overly ripe mangoes that are all squishy and don't hold their shape. You can also check out my strawberry lassi recipe here. If you have a lot of ripe mangoes in hand and want to use them up, may I suggest a mango cheesecake in jars, Thai mango sticky rice, or this super delicious mango bundt cake.

Mango Lassi Recipe | Mango Yogurt Smoothie Recipe

Mango Lassi | Mango Yogurt Smoothie

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Serves 4-6

Ingredients:
1.5 cups of ripe mango, peeled and chopped
3/4 cup of plain yogurt
1/4 cup of milk
2 tbsp of sugar (adjust to taste)
A pinch of of salt
A pinch of cardamom powder (optional)

Instructions:

Easy peasy! Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and serve chilled.

Note - my mango lassi tends to be more mango-heavy so adjust proportions to your taste.

Mango Avocado Milkshake Recipe, Mango Milkshake with Avocados

Mango Milkshake is a delicious drink and there's no denying that. But if you added some ripe avocados to when making mango milkshake? Even better! I've had family over the past couple weeks and thinks have been crazy ranging from cooking to sight seeing to shopping to eating.

Mango and Avocado Milkshake Recipe

Along with 6 people came a carton of mangoes, my favourite fruit. Although we were eating them as fast as they ripen, we were still left with a lot of mangoes that needed finishing up, a problem I was most happy with. There are so many different things you can make with ripe mangoes, like mango cheesecake, vegan mango cake, mango lassi, and even mango ice-cream milkshake.

Mango Mania

So we made mango milkshake every day for 4 days and had it in the evenings. I had some overripe avocados which we threw into the mango milkshake one day and it turned out delicious.

Mango Avocado Milkshake Recipe

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Yields 4-6 glasses

Ingredients:
2 of ripe mangoes
1 of ripe avocado
2 cups of milk
2 cups of water (adjust according to consistency desired)
Sugar of as needed
A pinch of salt
A few drops of vanilla essence (optional but recommended)

How to make Mango Avocado Milkshake:

Mango and Avocado Milkshake Recipe

1. Chop up the mangoes and the avocado. Keep all other ingredients handy and get your blender out.

2. Blend the mangoes and avocado into a smooth paste with no lumps. It will be super thick. Now add the milk and water and blend until well combined. You can adjust the water as needed. We added quite a bit because the avocados make the milkshake extra rich and thick. You can use just milk if that's what you prefer.

3. Once you get a uniform mixture, add the sugar, salt, and vanilla and blend some more. Chill and serve.

Mango and Avocado Milkshake Recipe

Notes:
- the avocado gives the mango milkshake a greenish tinge
- if you want just plane jane mango milkshake, then omit the avocado
- we used full cream milk but you can also use low fat milk
- adjust the sugar level after checking how sweet the mangoes are. the ones we used were bland so we had to add about 3 tbsp of sugar for this quantity of milkshake

Apple Milkshake with Almonds-Easy Milkshake Recipe

This apple milkshake with almonds is not so much a recipe post as it is my need to take some pictures of a drink. I don't have many drinks recipes in here because I hardly ever make anything at home. Or when I do, it's something ridiculously simple like this.

Apple Milkshake with Almonds | Recipe

But I was in the mood to play with my camera a bit and what better way to do it than make some super simple and spend a lot more time on taking pics? It was pretty grey day so the pics are all dark toned. Also, special thanks to Sindhu for helping with the pretty text on the first picture. There are more coming guys, so stay tuned!

For more milkshake recipes, check out my mom's avocado milkshake, banana milkshake, and the popular milkshake from Kerala, Sharjah shake with dates and banana.

Apple Milkshake with Almonds

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 0 minutes
Makes 2 tall glasses

Ingredients:
2 apples peeled, cored, and cut into small pieces
5 almonds soaked and skinned (or 1 tbsp almond meal)
500ml of chilled milk
1-2 tbsp of sugar (adjust according to your preference)

How I Made It:

1. Transfer the chopped apples, milk, and sugar to a blender. Blend until the apple pieces break down a bit.
Apple Milkshake with Almonds | Recipe

2. Add the soaked almonds or the almond meal and blend to a smooth consistency.
Apple Milkshake with Almonds | Recipe

Serve immediately with a garnish of apple pieces or ice cubes.

Apple Milkshake with Almonds | Recipe

Notes:

- the milkshake will be quite thick due to the almonds. Reduce amount of almonds, increase amount of milk, or just avoid it if you want a lighter, thinner milkshake. You can get away with using low fat milk because the almonds will give the milkshake the required thickness.

- I wanted to try adding some crushed cardamom to the apple milkshake but forgot to do it in the last minute. If any f you are willing, do try and let me know how that turned out. I think it will be apple milkshake meets badam milk if you do that. Maybe also throw in some saffron!

A Party Welcome Drink Idea - Sprite Fanta Drink Recipe

party welcome drink recipe idea

This is a good welcome drink idea for a small party in your home. There's quite a story behind this drink and although I don't usually share much stories with the recipes, this one can't come without out so here goes. My dad's sister, athamma, is quite a cook but more than that, she is a very eager hostess. Whenever we go back home on vacation, dinner at her place is a done thing and all our favourites line up on the table from one end to the other.

If you are looking for more drinks recipes to serve guests, check out strawberry lassi recipe, badam kheer, mango lassi, and sharjah shake, a milkshake with bananas and dates.

party welcome drink recipe idea

She recently hosted my newly married niece and her family and my mom was very taken by the "welcome drink". She immediately got the recipe, got all the ingredients and was on the phone with me the next day insisting she will make it and send me pics for the blog. I said I wanted to be there as she made it and anyway, I was going home on vacation in another month or so. So she made this while I stood around taking a zillion pictures.

party welcome drink recipe idea

None of us know the name of this and my aunt got it from someone on her husband's side of the family so this drink shall just be called a party welcome drink idea.

party welcome drink recipe idea

The ingredients and combinations will sound a bit bizzarre but it was delicious!

A Party Welcome Drink Idea (Recipe)
Serves 6-8 people

Ingredients:
3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp orange tang (experiment with flavours here)
1 litre chilled sprite or club soda
1-2tbsp sugar (increase if using club soda)
1 apple peeled and finely chopped
A few sprigs of fresh mint, finely chopped

How Its Made:

1. Add the condensed milk and tang to a bowl and whisk until well combined. (My mom uses what we call the "Horlicks beater" back home. Many years back, the UK version of Horlicks that was sold in duty paid shops came with these and my dad gifted one to his mom. She later gave it to my mom and she uses it to beat egg whites stiff, make cappuccino, and of course to make Horlicks).

2. Add the powdered sugar and give it another whisk. Then add sprite making sure you pour through the sides gently. The mixture will foam up quite a bit.

3. Transfer to glasses, top off with some chopped apples and mint, and serve cold with ice cubes if you like.

Serve your welcome drink immediately.
